EASTERN CAPE. – Three suspects, between the ages of 29 and 47, will appear in East London Magistrates’ Court tomorrow for alleged kidnapping and house robbery.
According to Capt. Yolisa Mgolodela, spokeswoman for the Hawks, a man (60) was kidnapped and held prisoner on February 23, around 06:00, at his home in Gonubie, in East London. Around 06:30 the same morning, residents were apparently robbed of possessions and money by armed robbers at the kidnapped man’s house.
On February 27, the kidnapped man’s family reportedly paid R160 000 for his release, after which he was released at Fort Jackson Shell filling station.
Three suspects were subsequently arrested by the Falcons’ kidnapping task force and R22 000 was recovered. King William’s Town’s dog unit and emergency patrol were also involved in the operation.
