Pretoria, Central Transvaal. – An emergency call initially made for a fire and then an injured man led to the discovery of two decomposed bodies in the GPG building in Tshwane’s CBD on Tuesday morning.
The Pretoria emergency services were called to a fire scene at the GPG building in Bosman and Pretorius Streets at 04:30. Upon arrival, they realized that there was in fact not a fire, but a person who had fallen through an elevator shaft to the basement.
Police officers had to make an opening through the basement garage door to gain access to the victim. According to Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso, the man was rescued and transported to a hospital.
Upon further investigation, Hule found two decomposed bodies floating in water at the bottom of the shaft.
The cause of their death, as well as the circumstances that led to the injury, are being investigated by the SAPS.
