Willem Petzer issues a statement on Devon and Liebenberg’s “New” commitment by Andre Smit
In recent weeks, I have been asked by many of you to comment on Devon Hofmeyr’s move to work for Louis Liebenberg now and even encourage investment in his “parcels” and his “mine” on various social platforms.
My choice to commit silence in that regard has led to even suspicions of yours in sumptuous circles. Therefore, I decided to share my opinion with you below, at length, for the first and the last time.
You would recall that when the Report article was released which argued that Devon had sexual intercourse with the spouse of one of the Groblersdal men while he was in prison, and that he was cozying up with Liebenberg in caucus, most people did not even heed the alleged sex scandal, and everyone’s focus was rather on the possible association with Liebenberg. People pleaded with Devon to just stay away from Liebenberg. Devon denied both allegations at this point.
Similarly, few were bothered that Devon was at Zuma’s gala dinner, and even the claim that tickets cost R300 000 was of lesser importance to the majority. What did cross people is that Devon was there at Liebenberg’s invitation and funded by Liebenberg.
Steve Hofmeyr himself commented on Facebook that “association with Liebenberg politics is suicide within Afrikaner ranks”.
Steve was right. A cordon sanitaire was pulled around Liebenberg.
A cordon sanitaire is a medical term that is very appropriate here. This means a person who is so infected that society does not want or cannot get close to him, or anyone who touches him.
Louis Liebenberg became the personification of syphilis among our Volk.
Any public or private figures in our Volk walk circles around anyone who has been in contact with Liebenberg.
You see, anyone who has the courage to take any remarkable stand in the public is going to immediately make enemies of those who don’t agree with his views. The Left does not like the right, and vice versa. However, such political differences are not insurmountable, and you will still see cooperation between different camps, to the extent that benefits both camps.
Liebenberg, on the other hand, has people from across the spectrum, around something much more simple: basic human orderliness.
He, and everyone in his camp, also fuels a much more radical hatred among a group of people. For example, you won’t see large groups of left-wing Facebook groups forming contra every right-wing figure, or ANC figure, or whatever, but large groups of normal people do establish (extremely active) groups of contra Liebenberg and all its pawns.
The reason for this is that you can’t bring in so many people – stealing widows’ pensions, stealing cancer patients’ medical care money, and so on – and expecting the same displeasure that others get who take only dissident stance.
People across the political spectrum agree that this is a very simple proposition of values – if you side with Liebenberg, you are simply a bad person. As simple as that. Arguing about this is a waste of time that no one is interested in.
Why Devon made the choice to get into bed with Liebenberg, I have no idea, nor do I believe I will ever get a real, or straightforward, answer out of him. Was he deceived? Was he greedy? On answers to these questions, we can only speculate.
For my part, it makes very little difference. I’m still getting on with the work I’m doing. I still live as far from Liebenberg as humanly possible. The choices Devon makes have no bearing on what I have already achieved, or are working on.
It is for this reason that I never considered it worth grazing on this; so anyone who tried to suspect me for not wasting my time fighting with Devon over the above at every opportunity, there you have your answer.
If we have to stop and fight for every barking beagle we’re not going to get anywhere. The same goes for Liebenberg and his pawns.
