Nyanga FCS Constable arrested for violent kidnapping, robbery

A police Constable (35) attached to the Nyanga Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court on 17 February 2023 for charges of kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He is the fifth suspect among the four accused who were previously arrested.

The suspect was arrested by the Provincial Kidnapping Task Team consisting of the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Provincial Organised Crime, Crime Intelligence on Wednesday, 15 February 2023.

It is alleged that on 22 January 2023, two victims were taken from their home on Empress Tree Street in Thubelitsha, Cape Town by four men and were held hostage in a house on Crescent Road, Phillipi East.

The suspects allegedly made off with the victims’ vehicle, a blue Ford Ranger bakkie which was later recovered at an informal settlement near Faure Drive. The victims who were seriously battered were rescued by the investigation team and were taken for medical attention.

The co-accused; Luvuyo Lwabi (33), Nicodimus Pasapanodya (32), Andrew Soko (25) and Constable Ngangaphila Somagaca (27) appeared in court on 3 February 2023 and they are in custody.

They will join the suspect at court where they will be applying to be released on bail.
