The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime investigation which was in phased approach has resulted in the arrest of Lonwabo Nkalitshana (37) on Wednesday, 15 February 2023 for dealing in explosives.
Nkalitshana has been in the Hawks’ radar for a while after a tipoff of him dealing in explosives around Carletonville was established.
A multi-disciplinary operation was steered by the West Rand based Hawks in concert with Crime Intelligence and Highway Patrol unit.
Nkalitshana was followed into the Carletonville Central Business District area where he was apprehended.
Following a search of his white VW Golf, a stash of cash amounting to R30 000-00 was found in the dashboard compartment. He was then taken to his place of residence where various types of explosives commonly used in cash-in-transit heists were recovered.
The Carletonville Magistrate’s Court postponed the case to Monday, 27 February 2023 for bail application.
