Drug trafficking, Hawks obtain vehicle asset forfeiture order, CT

The Bellville based Hawks’ Priority Crime Specialised Investigation (PCSI) team obtained an outstanding success when a final forfeiture order for a vehicle asset worth more than R142 300 was granted in their favour by the Western Cape High Court on 30 March 2023.

This emanates from a drug trafficking incident that was intercepted by the Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau team (SANEB) on the N2 highway where drugs were found hidden in the vehicle’s false compartment on 30 December 2021.

During the search, 24 packets containing mandrax worth R2.4 million were found concealed in a hidden compartment underneath the loader, which led to the arrest of Goodman Mzomba (53).

The vehicle that was used in the commission of crime was seized and subjected to a forfeiture investigation.

The Western Cape High Court granted a final forfeiture order to the team that worked closely with the NPA’ Asset Forfeiture Unit. The vehicle will be auctioned and the money obtained will be deposited into the Criminal Assets Recovery Account (CARA).

The accused was released on R50 000 bail and will return to the Riversdale Regional Court on 2 May 2023 for trial.

The Provincial Head of the Western Cape, Major General Mathipa Makgato commended the team for their job well done.
