Seven suspects aged between 28 and 44 were arrested by East London Based Serious Organised Crime of the Hawks in conjunction with Crime Intelligence (CI) members and Tactical Response Team (TRT) during an intelligence driven operation.
This operation was executed in the early hours of the morning on Thursday, 4 May 2023 responding to allegations of possession of unlicensed firearms, illegal possession of ammunition and possession of suspected stolen property (2 vehicles).
The joint police team promptly reacted to information that was received about suspects who were allegedly involved in violent crimes committed in and around East London area.
A search was carried out at the suspects’ residence in Skobeni Location, Bhisho and two vehicles found on the property were confirmed to have been stolen.
Among the items seized were firearms, ammunition and police uniform.
All suspects were arrested and are expected to appear in court soon.
The Provincial Head of the Hawks, Major General Mboiki Obed Ngwenya is pleased by the breakthrough as it will definitely bring down the escalating violent crimes in the area.
