New Brighton police vehicles set on fire

It is alleged that early on the morning of 8 May 2023, at about 05:12, an unknown person informed police at SAPS New Brighton Community Service Centre that police vehicles were on fire at the back of the premises.

Two vehicles were indeed burning.

One vehicle, a Ford Ranger (marked) completely burned out while a detective unmarked vehicle which was parked next to the Ford Ranger caught alight and sustained partial damage on the front and back passenger doors.

The vehicles were parked in the police premises.

The members extinguished the fire by using the fire extinguishers on the premises. The vehicles were roadworthy prior to the incident.

A case of malicious damage to property is opened for investigation.

The suspect/s are unknown. Police investigations continue.
