Security officer killed and discovery of a body with gunshot wounds

The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has vehemently condemned the recent surge in shooting incidents following the discovery of a man’s body found dumped in the bushes, bearing fatal gunshot wounds. In another incident, a security officer fatally shot by another security officer at Groblersdal Port of Entry.

According to preliminary investigations, the victim, whose identity is not yet known, was discovered in Khalavha Lunangani village in Siloam in Vhembe District on 02 April 2024 at about 18:30. This tragic incident marks yet another senseless act of violence plaguing our communities.

In response to this appalling crime, the Provincial Commissioner has reiterated the commitment of law enforcement agencies to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice.

Police responded to the distress call and upon arrival, they found the body of an unidentified man brutally shot multiple times. The deceased is estimated to be in his late thirties and was wearing a black t-shirt, blue jeans and one Nike shoe. He was also tied with a belt on the neck.

A case of murder has been opened, and the motive for the brutal killing is still subject to police investigation.

Meanwhile, a 36-year-old male security officer was arrested after he fatally shot another male security officer (28), employed at a different company after the two got into a heated argument while at the Groblersburg Port of Entry in Tomburke policing area on 02 April 2024 at about 20:00.The victim was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.The two officers are reportedly working companies responsible for escorting heavy duty trucks.

Police are still investigating the motive behind the tragic incident.

The suspect will appear before Phalala Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 04 April.

“We will leave no stone unturned in our quest to apprehend those responsible for this heinous act,” stated Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe. “Such brazen acts of violence will not be tolerated, and we will work tirelessly to ensure that the perpetrators face the full might of the law.”
