Confiscation of firearms and arrest of two suspects involved in burglary and robbery cases in Mopani district

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the members of SAPS Mopani District Tracking Team and Modjadjiskloof Vispol police following the confiscation of firearms and the arrest of two suspects involved in burglary and robbery cases within Mopani district.

The suspects were arrested in possession of four firearms, three pistols and one rifle and stolen items linked to a recent house robbery in Giyani and two burglary incidents in Mokwakwaila in August 2023.

The Mopani SAPS Tracking team members were performing operational duties around Maake and Ritavi on Friday afternoon, 19 April 2024 when they attempted to pull over a suspicious gold Mercedes Benz with two males along the R36 road.

The driver drove off in an attempt to flee from the scene. Subsequently, the suspects were arrested with assistance from Modjadjiskloof Vispol members. The suspects were found in possession of three cellphones, robbed from a male victim during a house robbery in Giyani.

Following intense investigation at the suspects’ residences in Bolobedu, the police recovered three pistols , one rifle and live ammunition, as well as four plasma TVs, which were stolen during burglary in Mokwakwaila.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the members for their vigilance which ultimately led to the arrest of the suspects and recovery of firearms. “I urge our members to continue to combat the proliferation of firearms in order to create a safe and secure environment for our communities,” added Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.

The suspects will soon appear before the respective Magistrate’s Court.
