As the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation continues to fight the scourge of illegal mining in Limpopo Province, more mining equipment was seized.
After conducting illegal mining operation at Ga-Phasha on 20 October 2023 and seized mining equipment worth over R600 000-00, Limpopo Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation members assisted by Illegal Mining Task Team and State Security Agency continued with the operation at Mooihoek in Driekop policing area.
When the team pounced on the suspects, they managed to run away and leave their mining equipment such as jack hammers, generators, water pump and shovels with the value of over R350 000-00.
The Provincial Head of the Hawks in Limpopo Province Major General Gopz Govender has emphasized that more disruptive operations are still going to be conducted until all illegal miners surrender.
