The Northern Cape SAPS management welcomes the 18 year rape sentence that was handed down to a 27-year-old uncle from Platfontein in Kimberley.
On 27 September 2021 at 18:45, the 12 year old victim disclosed to her grandmother that her uncle raped her.
The victim asked the uncle to assist her with washing her clothes at his house when the incident happened.
The accused was arrested and remained in custody until he was sentenced to 18 years for rape in the Kimberley Magistrates Court on 31 January 2024.
The Provincial Commissioner for the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola applauds the investigating officer, D/Cst Mpotsang Ruth Morolong of the Kimberley Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit for a sterling investigative work that put the perpetrator behind bars.
