Three armed robbers descended on the Yabi Supermarket last week Tuesday at 17:50, making off with roughly R17 000 in cash as well as cigarettes and products.
One of Yabi Supermarket’s partners, Kalem Eliyas, says that the store, which is co-owned between her and her brother Demise, was ransacked by the suspects who were armed with a gun and a tazer.
Demise, an employee and one customer was held at gunpoint while one suspect guarded the entrance and the two others looted the shop of its cash and contents.
The third suspect. Fortunately, no one was injured in the process.
The armed suspects drove away in a minibus.
The minibus the suspects fled in. Anyone with more information on the suspects is urged to contact 074 432 2993.
The incident is one of many armed robberies in the Eastdene area.
The suspects approaching Yabi Supermarket. • The Tayyib Halaal Butchery in Eastdene was robbed on 14 February leading to a pursuit of the suspects throughout town. While no injuries were reported, the suspects fled in a red VW Polo and managed to evade capture after speeding off on the R555 Stoffberg road.
• The owner of ABC Couriers, Mr Ahmed Mohamed, was gunned down at his home in Oos Street on 2 February after an armed robbery led by eight suspects.
The assailants made off with Mr Mohamed’s black Toyota Etios, which was later found abandoned by police. No arrests have been made in the murder investigation.
• The Eastdene Saverite, AC Moosa’s and Union Bazaar were engulfed in flames after armed robbers descended on the owner of Eastdene Saverite, Mr Mahomed Cassim.
Mr Cassim was assaulted and left for dead after the three suspects set fire to his store and an explosion followed.
The incident occurred early November last year, and no arrests have been made in the case.
