After an almost disastrous hearing yesterday, the Bittereinder 4 is back in court at 9 o’clock to apply for bail. This comes after they were plagued with many upheavals yesterday. We hope the magistrate arrives on time, to start the trial at 9 o’clock!
Member of the community makes a generator available.
A member of the community offered a generator and fuel but the court declined the offer!
Delays that have surfaced.
First, the magistrate decided to show up late and the hearings could reportedly only begin after 12 hours. Nearly an hour later, the national load shedding schedule began and the court had to adjourn because the audio and recording system could not be used. After load shedding, there were problems with the system that delayed court proceedings even further. The court officers also took frequent breaks that lasted up to 20 minutes.

Francois van der Merwe, Willem Petzer, Tewie Wessels and Devon Hofmeyr are charged with public violence and interference in police duties. They took part in a peaceful protest when police first arrested Francois and der Merwe nearly a month ago. Willem Petzer, Tewie Wessels and Devon Hofmeyr should have surrendered on Monday morning, 12 February 2024, after which the Groblersdal police also arrested them. The magistrate announced that he was throwing the 4’s cases together and would deliver just one verdict at the end of the trial.
Load shedding in Groblersdal
Today’s load shedding schedule is from 05h00 to 7h30 and then again from 21h00 until 23h30. They cannot use load shedding as an excuse because there is no load shedding during court times.
ADJUNCT: Magistrate LATE AGAIN
We just learned from Chris Harmse of the White Cross Monument that the landros were not yet present at 9 a.m. The day kicks off with travails due to the Landros once again being late. The court cases are supposed to start at 9 a.m.
