Melkkos, simply translated to “Milk food”, is a traditional South African dessert. Make your grandmother proud with this ultimate comfort food. The only negative is that now your family will keep asking you to make it!
Using spaghetti is optional, it just makes this dish go further and is super delicious.
The best part of this dish is that you will mostly always have these ingredients on hand.

    INGREDIENTS
    • 2 litres milk
    • 300 ml flour (152 grams)
    • 5 ml salt
    • 60 ml butter
    • 125 grams spaghetti
    • cinnamon sugar to taste, or sweetner
    • cinnamon stick to add the milk for extra flavour (optional)

    METHOD

    • Rub together the flour, salt, and butter with your fingers until it is nice and crumbly.
    • Cook the spaghetti in sufficiently boiling salted water until cooked and drain, set aside.
    • Pour the milk into a large saucepan and add the cinnamon stick. Bring slowly to the boil.
    • Once the milk is boiling and frothy, reduce the heat and allow to simmer while slowly sprinkling the flour mixture into the milk, whisking continuously. Lumps will form but keep stirring well.
    • Reduce the heat and simmer gently, while whisking, for about 10 minutes. Add the spaghetti, mix well. Turn off the heat, allow to rest for five minutes before serving with a generous sprinkling of cinnamon sugar.
