Cape Town police tracked down the alleged hijackers of a truck that was transporting goods worth millions. The arrests also led to the discovery of a large hydroponic dagga farm.
ARRESTS MADE IN TRUCK HIJACKING CASE AND STOLEN GOODS RECOVERED
On Thursday, 18 May, Members of the Public Order Police were patrolling Spine Road near Blue Downs, Eerste River, when they spotted a Scania truck that had been hijacked the day before.
The vehicle was abandoned at the roadside with its cargo, which included alcohol, printers and fruit juice, missing.

“The members pursued further information, which led them to Pacific, Isiqalo, an informal settlement in Philippi, where they managed to recover some of the stolen cargo and arrested five suspects between the ages 35 and 52 who were found in possession of the stolen cargo with an estimated value of R5 million,” said Lieutenant-Colonel Malcolm Pojie.
The five suspects are expected to make their first court appearances on charges of hijacking and possession of presumed stolen property.
POLICE UNCOVER LARGE-SCALE HYDROPONIC DAGGA OPERATION
While searching for more loot in Isiqalo, the police came across a hydroponic dagga laboratory near where the first arrests were made.
Dagga and cultivating equipment worth approximately R2.6 million were seized. Three suspects – two men and a woman – were arrested for illegal cultivation and dagga dealing. Their first court appearance is expected once they are charged.

“Provincial management has lauded the members for their vigilance and commitment to protect our communities from the scourge of drugs and crimes associated with the abuse and trafficking thereof,” said the police spokesperson.
