NELSPRUIT – The SAPS members of Border Policing have made a major breakthrough by arresting two suspects, aged 33 and 34 respectively, after they were found in possession of more than R4,7 Million worth of cannabis near Oshoek Gates on Monday, 22 April 2024.

According to a report, members of the SAPS were on routine patrol services near Redhill exit when they spotted a white Toyota Hilux, marked with a certain Courier company logo. When they brought the vehicle to a stop, they conducted a thorough search and it was at this time when the shrewd members discovered large wrapped packages loaded with 1,133 kg of marijuana on the back of the van. The estimated street value of the cannabis is around R4,758,600.00.

It was also during this period when the two male suspects were apprehended and charged for trafficking marijuana.

The suspects appeared in the Elukwatini Magistrate’s Court yesterday, 22 April 2024 and the case was postponed to 29 April 2024 for formal bail application. They were identified as Grandpa Simon Mohape, 33, and Siyabonga Eric Sine, 34.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, observed with great appreciation the exceptional work done by the members. “We are indeed encouraged by the vigilance displayed by our members at the border. They really work with diligence in dealing with Cross-Border Crime,” the General said.
