    Prayer and Praise Update
Prison Ministry, Literature Ministry, Youth Ministry and Hospital Ministry:
From Prison Ministry, Literature Ministry, Youth Ministry and Hospital Ministry

From Prison Ministry to Hospital Ministry
Shortly after my mission to Mpumalanga, prison ministry and lecturing at Back to the Bible Mission, https://www.frontlinemissionsa.org/prayer--praise-updates/prison-discipleship-lecturing-on-african-church-history-during-mission-to-mpumalanga-congo-river-mission-and-youth-conference-in-kwazulu 4 weeks ago, I was hospitalised with kidney stones. Excruciating agony. Both my mother and grandmother suffered from kidney stones, so it is a somewhat inherited condition. My first experience with kidney stones was while a scholar in Rhodesia, in 1972. The hospital in Bulawayo was so well-run and the nurses so friendly and efficient. These cheerful souls made the painful experience almost enjoyable. My next bout with kidney stones was during a mission to Zimbabwe 1984. Then 1988 in the Transvaal. In 2017 I was hospitalised again with kidney stones. That time it was caused by my doctor overdosing me with vitamin D supplements. This time, last month, they put in a stent and told me to come back 3 weeks later when they would remove the stone! The urologist told me that I would experience “some discomfort” which must be medical code for extreme pain! On occasion I was feverish with acute pain to the point of repeated vomiting. https://fromthefrontline.podbean.com/e/from-the-frontline-episode-266-mission-to-mpumalanga-and-kwazulu/

    Youth Ministry
By God’s grace, despite the discomfort and acute pain multiple times a day, I was able to complete my mission to KwaZulu, speaking at the KwaSizabantu mission Youth Conference, ministering to over 7000 Young people and organising consignments of Bibles and books. The logistical challenges of transporting thousands of people from around the country and accommodating and catering for them were handled efficiently and with grace and cheerfulness by the co-workers and family members of KwaSizabantu mission. It was impressive to see how everybody, even very young children, were enthusiastically and energetically mobilised to cater for, cook, serve and counsel thousands of young people multiple times each day. Also, every day, various choirs sang inspiring hymns. The sports day was creatively organised and the participants were enthusiastic and energetic. The conference programme was challenging, edifying and life transforming. After every service, counsellors remained to pray with burdened and seeking souls. We heard numerous testimonies of transformed lives and answers to prayer. The far ranging impact of these youth conferences must be immense. https://fromthefrontline.podbean.com/e/from-the-frontline-episode-266-mission-to-mpumalanga-and-kwazulu/ (https://www.ksb.org.za/ )

    Literature Ministry and Hospital Ministry
Last week, Monday, I was up early to receive another 20 foot 18 tonne container shipment of Bibles and books and other Gospel Literature. https://www.frontlinemissionsa.org/news/quartermaster-store-for-missions-throughout-africa It was the morning I needed to check in to the hospital for the surgical procedure to remove the kidney stone.
The surgeon afterwards cheerfully told me that they had removed “a lovely large stone!” (The laboratory has now confirmed that the stone consisted of Calcium Oxalate.) When the doctor told me I needed to take it easy and rest for the next week, I replied that that was not really possible. He offered me a doctor’s note me to get off work. I responded that I did not know to whom I could deliver such a letter. As the mission director, the buck stops with me. There are many duties that I cannot realistically delegate. Mission leaders cannot simply stay-at-home and expect others to fill the gap. The needs are urgent. We have a Great Commission to fulfil.

    Pain-free! But Without Water
This last Thursday was my first day pain free in the last month. It is a wonderful feeling to be free of pain! Slightly complicating life during this time, the municipality cut off our water supply – for non-payment of rates and taxes. In our shortage of funds, we had failed to keep up with the inflated municipal utilities bills. Capetonians are still saddled with an 800% water tariff for the drought which ended 5 years ago. So for 10 days my daughter, Daniela, and I were reduced to filling up buckets and water bottles with rainwater harvested from our roof, washing with buckets and jugs. It was like camping in the field.
Thank you for your prayers during this very difficult time.

    Book Ministry
Last week, we launched a Journey to the Truth book by Gerda Potgieter.
Responding to the sensational scandal mongering of News 24, Gerda has unravelled the web of deceit and intrigue behind the extraordinary malicious campaign against this exemplary mission in KwaZulu Natal. It reads like a detective novel, it is a real page turner, I could not put it down. Absolutely incredible. The truth behind the rumours and accusations needs to be known. Ultimately this book, although beginning with the negative attacks, is positive, uplifting and inspiring. I think it needs to be required reading for every journalist. Exposing shoddy and superficial scandal rags and demonstrating real investigative journalism, doing the hard work necessary to get to the facts and present the truth. It is not often that one has the opportunity to unravel complex intrigues in order to get to understand the reality behind the headlines. Gerda has done us all a great service in producing this landmark book.

Book Launch A Journey to the Truth
Despite a scheduled power failure in Rondebosch, Gerda gave a tremendous presentation at the Reformation Society on Thursday night. She did book signing by candlelight. (Regular scheduled power failures are part of daily life in ANC misruled South Africa. We can have 8 hours of power failure in a single day) We have a video recording of Gerda’s presentation: https://vimeo.com/847131174
Our friends, The Engelbrechts laid on a tremendous tea and book launch event at Franschhoek. After the event, we took Gerda on a tour of the inspiring Huguenot Museum and monument.
The KwaSizabantu mission at Moreson invited us to take the Sunday morning service. Gerda presented her testimony of how she was led to produce this book giving some background to the Journey to the Truth book. and I preached on the 9th commandment: the Truth will set you Freehttps://www.sermonaudio.com/sermoninfo.asp?SID=724231423537437 After each event Gerda has had numerous involved conversations, including with people who we know as draadsitters/ fence sittersand some who even described themselves as between the two camps. There has been intense interest in the books. Bad times are good spiritual work. The great thing about being slandered, is that we come to learn who our real friends are!
May God continue to take what man meant for evil and use it for good. God is able to work all things together for good for those who love God and are the called according to His purpose.

    Bondservant of Christ
Along with A Journey to the Truth, we have also been promoting the new Bondservant of Christ book. Having read every word of this inspiring book, I cannot recommend it highly enough. As someone who has been regularly visiting KwaSizabantu Mission since 1987, I can testify to the truth of this remarkable book. Having also read God among the Zulus and other books on the Revival, attended almost every ministers conference, I thought I knew a lot about the Mission, but Bondservant of Christ revealed so much more. In fact no one can comprehend just how much God, by His grace, has accomplished through Rev Erlo Stegen and through his family and faithful co-workers. KwaSizabantu mission is the most extraordinary, exemplary and effective mission in all of Africa, possibly in the world. When I asked Rev. Bill Bathman, if I was overstating the case to declare that KwaSizabantu Mission is “the most blessed and effective mission in Africa”, he replied: “Peter, you can upgrade that to the world. I have ministered in 114 countries and there is no ministry on earth to compare with KwaSizabantu Mission in terms of missionary effectiveness and spiritual impact.” I cannot think of any ministry, or government department for that matter, which has accomplished more to practically help people than Uncle Erlo and the Mission of KwaSizabantu . Bondservant of Christ should be required reading for all missionaries and Theological students. Bondservant of Christ is an inspiring case study of an example of excellence in Missions, ministry and Revival. https://www.christianlibertybooks.co.za/item/SPX042

This inspiring and challenging book consists of over 300 pages, with over 209 photographs, many of them in colour, including the historic context, conversion and calling behind the Revival. It reveals the historic roots of the unique work of God at KwaSizabantu mission, beginning with the Revival in Germany in the 19th-century and the launch of the North German Mission Society in Hamburg and the Ministry of Louis Harms and the ship they built, the Kandaze to transport Christian missionaries and farming families to reach Africa for Christ. Bondservant of Christ is an extraordinary record of the family background and early life of Erlo Stegen, who from his teenage years has been dedicated to reaching Zulu people for Christ. https://www.christianlibertybooks.co.za/item/KSBBONDSERVANT

Please pray for our upcoming Women’s Day outreaches on 9 August. https://www.christianaction.org.za/index.php/articles/prostitution-and-human-trafficking/523-stop-the-traffick Since 1995 we have been organising evangelistic teams throughout the country to set up displays in shopping centres and mass distribute literature alerting people to the dangers of human trafficking: click here. To view or to download and print our STOP the Traffick! leaflet with pictures, click here

“Jesus said: ‘The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the Gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.’ ” Luke 4:18–19

May God continue to be your joy, strength and shield.
    Yours for Faith and Freedom
    In His service
