The Office of the Public Protector confirmed that the investigation into allegations that President Cyril Ramaphosa violated the Executive Ethics Code is complete in a letter on 20 January. The investigation is related to the theft of millions of dollars from Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala farm in Waterberg, Limpopo.

The Public Protector’s letter was addressed to African Transformation Movement (ATM) leader Vuyolweathu Zungula.
“Kindly be advised that the investigation into this matter has been completed. An interim report has already been drafted by the investigation team,” read the letter.
Next, the interim report will undergo an internal review process for quality assurance. Once the process is complete it will be served to the relevant parties.
In late 2022, an Independent Section 89 Panel found that there was prima facie evidence that Ramaphosa had violated his oath of office and broke anti-corruption laws after the cash was stolen from his farm in 2020.
In a tweet, Zungula pondered whether Acting Public Protector Advocate Kholeka Gcaleka and her staff would reach a different finding.
On 13 December, the National Assembly debated whether to adopt or reject the Section 89 report. As previously reported, 214 Members of Parliament voted against the adoption and Ramaphosa’s potential impeachment was averted.
