From the Frontline: Prison Ministry

What does the Bible say about ministry to prisoners? I have recently returned from a mission to Mpumalanga which involved prison ministry. But this was not my first experience in prison ministry. Back in 1987 I had my first prison experience in Zambia as a presidential detainee under dictator Kenneth Kaunda in Lusaka Central Prison. In 1989 I was captured by Soviet troops in northern Mozambique and imprisoned in Machava security prison, in Maputo. Some of the prisoners in Barbeton had read copies of my books and specifically requested and I come to present a Discipleship course for their people. I presented a Discipleship course, entitled Living Testimonies. Jesus said: “I was in prison and you came to Me.” Matthew 25:36 Reformation Society: Wanted: A Few Good Men!
Wanted: A Few Good Men! I hate to break it to the Marine corps, but they didn’t originate that appeal. Some 2,000 years ago, the first real recruiter of our age, a man named Paul wrote a letter to his able assistant, a young lieutenant, if you will, named Timothy. Timothy was in Ephesus, trying to untangle a web of theological confusion while his mentor was composing and dictating his instructions from far off in Macedonia. And in what we have come to know as chapter three of his first letter to young Tim, you might well summarize the chapter with those five immortal words: Wanted: A Few Good Men. Today we desperately need good and brave men to stand against the forces of darkness.. will you answer that call? Mark your calendars and spread the word among your fellow men. Let us stand together, shoulder to shoulder, as we respond to the cry for a few good men who will make a difference in this generation.

Since 2006 the Reformation society has been conducting regular, every Thursday night, Reformation society meetings in Cape Town, holding Reformation seminars and conferences, promoting Reformation day services and events, including Reformation Art and Essay competitions, Reformation variety concerts and home education events. The Reformation society has published the Greatest Century of Reformation book (including an updated and expanded edition), Reforming our Families, the Power of Prayer Handbook, Reformation 500 hymnbook and the Reformation 500 Coalition on Revival FIRE Manual donating thousands of these books to Bible colleges, Missions, ministries and Christian universities.
The Reformation Society also published the 95 Theses for Reformation Today, translated into German, French, Dutch and Afrikaans and launched the Reformation 500 Back to the Bible movement, which led to Reformation 500 events in Zambia, United States of America, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, culminating in Wittenberg October 2017. In the lead up to the Zwingli 500, marking the initiation of expository preaching (1st January 1519) we preached through every book of the Bible, publishing a series of the Bible in a nutshell in a popular local Christian magazine in South Africa and publishing the Old Testament Survey and New Testament Survey books. We also held Biblical Preaching Workshops and helped publish the Biblical Preaching Handbook. Our Reformation500 facebook page has also received a wide reach and many engagements as we promote Reformation doctrines and history and work for a fresh back to the Bible Reformation in churches, communities and throughout the continent of Africa.
