A well-known civil engineer, Thys van Niekerk (64), was stabbed and his throat slit on a farm between Cradock and Hofmeyr in the Eastern Cape. According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli, the body of 65-year-old Van Niekerk was found Wednesday in the farmhouse near R390 between Hofmeyr and Cradock. Van Niekerk was stabbed multiple times before his throat was slit. It is believed that he was attacked and murdered on Tuesday afternoon. Van Niekerk lived alone in the house on the farm Uitkyk while working as a resident engineer, attached to the company SNA Civil and Structural Engineers, on a road reconstruction project on the R390 route between Cradock and Hofmeyr.
